Vintiver: Investigation Begins
A bear, a dog, and the town warden ...

Senior Warden Robert,

We set out on the last leg of our trip to Vintiver with the intention of arriving there for lunch. As we followed the winding road through the woods, we heard a great commotion in the trees and behind a hill. We investigated and found a mabari war dog defending the corpse of it’s master against a hungry bear. We dispatched the bear and were perplexed as to what killed the man. It appears to be an animal of some type, but not one we are familiar with. In the end we brought the war dog and man’s effects into Vintiver.

We spoke with Tarl Dale, the local bann’s warden, and discovered that the dead man was Felix, a member of the local militia. In addition Warden Dale has discovered a the Fuldor family which was massacred on their farm by the same or similar creatures as what killed Felix. The locals claim this is a result of a Dalish curse placed upon the town a week ago. Warden Dale disagrees. He informed us that there was an altercation at the town’s Harvest Festival between the town’s hot-headed smith and one of the Dalish caravan’s youth. However, the situation was addressed by both he and the Dalish elder and they went peacefully on their way. Warden Dale requested that we thoroughly investigate the farm since he is unable to leave the town in such a state of near-panic to do the investigation himself.

We proceeded to the Fuldor farm and immediately noticed an Elvish word written on the wall of the farm house — in what appears to have been the farm family’s blood. We are currently continuing our investigation at the farm and will report in once we have further news.

The Gray Warden’s investigation into this matter is wise. Something is definitely going on here in Vintiver.

Vintiver: Of Wolves and Mobs
the unexpected value of meat pies

Senior Warden Robert,

We finished our investigation of the Fuldor farm. We found nothing further in the farmhouse (though we did restock our provisions). Upon exiting the farmhouse we fought a pack of dire wolves, presumably drawn by the scent of blood. The fight was shortened by a well tossed meat pie sent several wolves off into the woods to fight over their prize.

After the wolves were dispatched, we thoroughly explored the farm’s out-buildings. In the barn we discovered an injured elf with wounds consistent with those of the Fuldor family and Felix the militia man. Senron was able to stabilize her enough to take her to town.

We were able to smuggle the unconscious elf into our room in the inn without attracting the townsfolk’s attentions. However a mob of angry townfolk assembled in front of the inn later that night. The smith had stirred them up over the Senron’s presence. I was able to soothe the situation long enough for Tarl Dale, the town Warden, to arrive and send home the smith and what remained of the mob.

We expect that the elf will be well enough in the morning for interrogation. We will update you with what we learn.

Vintiver: The Dalish Story
things begin to get weird

Senior Warden Robert,

The young elf has told us her story. Her name is Eshara and she is a member of the Dalish band that visited Vintiver for their Harvest Festival. A clash began between the elves (lead by a ranger named Harralan) and the villagers (lead by Coalan the smith). Tarl Dale and the Dalish elder broke up the fight, and the Dalish left town. Harralan was sent to scout ahead. He was the first scout to go missing. Within a few days many of the bad had disappeared (including several search parties). Then darkspawn attacked the wagon train and captured the rest. Of all the captives, Eshara was the one to escape. As she fled, she found a silver link. It is broken, but had been displayed prominently in the ruined keep where the Dalish are being held. She gave us the link and a map to the keep and has begged us to rescue her people.

Tarl Dale supports our mission and has re-equipped us. He also has taken responsibility for Eshara’s safety as she is too weak to accompany us. Coalen the smith felt differently, however. He objected strongly to Senron’s presence in town and ambushed us as we left. He quickly discovered that he was no match for Vash. We left him unconscious beside the road where his friends would find him once their courage returned.

Using Eshara’s map, we found and investigated the remains of the Dalish camp. It was obvious from the footprints and destruction that a whole-scale fight had occurred, but all the bodies had been drug away. We gathered what valuables we could find and brought them with us for safe-keeping. The trail of footprints and bodies lead in the same direction as Eshara’s instructions, so we were able to follow it until night fall.

As we camped in the woods, we were attacked by four darkspawn of a kind I have never seen before. Fully the size of a human, they had jackale-like heads with glowing red eyes and very strong claws. These claws are responsible for the unique wounds on both the militia man and the Fuldor family. We were able to defeat the darkspawn and that lead us to our most disturbing discovery of this investigation. The darkspawn become Dalish elves upon death. We buried the elves/darkspawn.

We expect to arrive at the ruined keep tomorrow and will provide a report on what we find.

Vintiver: Battle of the Bridge
the murder of crows

Senior Warden Robert,

I write to inform you that our arrival at the ruined keep has been delayed. We were set upon by a large number of blood crows as we attempted to cross a chasm over a river. We were forced to tend to our wounds and rest before proceeding.

We currently expect to arrive tomorrow in the late morning.

Warden-Ensign Auran of Tevinter

P. S. — As I’m sure you recall, I voiced some strong objections to Vash accompanying us on this mission. I wish now to acknowledge his value in our team and your wisdom in sending him.

Vintiver: The Ruined Keep
skeletons and captives

Senior Warden Robert,

We indeed arrived at the Keep this morning. It is very old and probably not from this age, nor perhaps the one before. Although the above-ground portion is a complete ruin, the basement is in better condition. It is there that, after dispatching some undead, we found the missing Dalish.

Their Lorekeeper Orellis was able to give us more information. There is an abomination named Mythallen (Child of Vengeance). It appears to once have been the Dalish hunter Harralan. The abomination is able to make others (including the jackal-like darkspawn we encountered a few days ago) from the bodies of the dead Dalish. Mythallen left shortly before our arrival. He has taken his “army” to attack the town of Vintiver.

Larresh, a Dalish hunter, has offered to guide us on a faster route back to Vintiver while the rest of the Dalish clan remains behind in safety. We require a rest before entering the forest, but we trust to make up the time with Larresh’s help.
